  • Smartphone adapter eyepiece clamp 28-47 mm, phone cradle 55-95 mm

Before you buy

  • Fits eyepieces about 28-47 mm across the outside, which includes standard 1.25-inch telescope eyepieces.

  • Phone cradle opens from about 55 mm to 95 mm; a thick phone case may need to come off.

  • Best for the Moon. Planets come out small; record a short video and keep the sharpest frames.

  • Not for faint nebulae or galaxies: those need a tracking mount and long exposures.

  • Use the phone's self-timer or earphone volume button as a shutter to avoid shaking the telescope.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my telescope?

If your eyepiece measures roughly 28 to 47 mm across its outer housing, yes. That covers the standard 1.25-inch eyepieces that come with almost every beginner telescope sold in Pakistan.

Will it fit my phone?

The cradle opens from about 55 mm to 95 mm wide, which fits most phones, including large ones. A thick or bulky case may need to come off for the camera to sit close to the eyepiece.

What can I photograph with it?

The Moon in detail, the Sun only through a proper solar filter on the front of the telescope, and the bright planets as small discs. Faint deep-sky objects are beyond a phone held to an eyepiece.

Can I use it with binoculars or a spotting scope?

Yes. It clamps onto one eyepiece of a pair of binoculars, a monocular, a spotting scope or a microscope, as long as the eyepiece is within the size range.

Full description

This adapter holds your phone steady behind a telescope eyepiece so the phone's camera looks through it. It is the simplest way to photograph what you see: the Moon's craters, Jupiter with its moons, Saturn's rings as a small bright shape, or a distant bird through a spotting scope or a pair of binoculars.

It has two clamps. The lower one grips the eyepiece and takes eyepieces from about 28 mm to 47 mm across the outside of the barrel housing, which covers the 1.25-inch eyepieces sold with almost every beginner telescope, including the Visionking refractors and our own reflectors. The upper one is a sprung phone cradle that opens from about 55 mm to 95 mm, so it fits most current phones; a thick case may need to come off. A screw then slides the phone up and down and side to side until the camera lens sits exactly over the eyepiece.

Lining it up is the only skill involved. Point the telescope at the Moon first, centre it in the eyepiece by eye, then fit the adapter and move the phone until the full bright circle fills the screen. Use the phone's normal photo mode, tap to focus on the Moon, lower the exposure until the craters stop looking washed out, and use the self-timer or a pair of earphones as a shutter so your finger does not shake the telescope.

Be realistic about what a phone through an eyepiece can do. The Moon comes out very well. Jupiter, Saturn and Mars come out small, and video works better than single photos: record a short clip and keep the sharpest frames. Faint nebulae and galaxies are beyond a phone held to an eyepiece; that needs a tracking mount and long exposures, or a smart telescope.

The body is ABS plastic with a metal locking bolt on the phone clamp, so it does not slip under the phone's weight. It works on binoculars, monoculars, spotting scopes and microscopes as well as telescopes, provided the eyepiece is within the size range.
